“I’m convinced that Daya belongs to these figures: the guitar master, the improvisational musician, the instrument innovator and inventor, the walking encyclopedia of the world’s plucked-string music, the folk singer, the avant-garde artist, and the people’s hero who speaks the same dialect with me, emerging from the grassroots of the Huai-hai region and the Lahun opera.”
From Li Wan (music critic)
Feng Daya is an innovator in fusion music, improvisation, and instrument design, who devotes himself to creating new sounds and musical language with his self-designed guitars and one-man band performing techniques.
Originally a folk singer, then heavily influenced by world fusion music, especially that from India and West Africa, as well as world renowned artists like Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis, Feng Daya has been dedicated to merging his unique understanding of improvisation with established music genres. The pursuit includes converging the sound of the Chinese Guqin with his self-designed guitar, which features two extra sets of strings and a special tuning system. His performances are rich with on-site vitality, fueled by an unmatched enthusiasm for music as a language.
